  REVIEW:

If you think a few dozen slaughtered animals, a zillion hot dog shaped "slithering" aliens, and one bare nipple can't make for a good time, then you haven't seen Slither.

Slither will creep you out, gross you out and…make you laugh hysterically!  If you think you are going to see a run-of-the-mill, just another bloody horror story, you will be pleasantly surprised.  The story is far from unique in that it’s the typical, aliens come to earth and want to take over the human race.  In this case, the aliens are either giant squid looking things or big red slug like creatures.  The giant squids impale their prey and the slugs climb into your mouth and take over your body.  What makes this movie special is that it is filled with comedy.  Mixed in with the “I’m going to eat you” and the “I’m going to kill you” dialogue are some genuinely funny moments.  The chief of police (Nathan Fillion) leads a small group of survivors that are determined to kill the main squid guy and save the planet.  He and the mayor (Gregg Henry) keep the audience laughing with their antics and well-timed remarks.

“B” list actors, over-the-top gross and disgusting, and a story that’s been done more times than a drunken groupie would all seem to make for your typical horror/horrible movie.  But, surprisingly, Slither is neither horror nor horrible.  It’s funny – granted not smart funny, but funny funny!  It’s almost as though someone tried to make a serious horror film, and the actors decided not to play along.  Instead, they made it a comedy, and what a fine job they did!  It’s not the funniest movie ever, but there are easily 12 to 14 good, laugh out loud, moments that make the film uniquely appealing.  It’s occasionally terrifying, mostly ridiculous, but entertaining nonetheless.  So, if you’re up for something different, this might be one to check out.
